About
During one of the worst economic crisis since the time of their great grandparent’s, the children of Toledo, Ohio are stepping in to save Christmas.
Confronted by a community shortage of $150,000, primary community Christmas programs provided by the Salvation Army and Marine Corp Reserve’s Toys for Tots, cannot meet the needs of food, warm clothing, shoes, utilities, and toys for countless families and children this Holiday Season.
Started by 7th- and 8th-graders at Our Lady of Perpetual Help elementary school, and the children of recent Extreme Home Makeover beneficiaries Jackie and Aaron Frisch, this campaign is targeting both money and time.
Some children are donating lunch money, allowances, raking and snow shoveling money. Some are volunteering time as bell ringers for the Salvation Army, while others are putting up “Kids Saving Christmas“ donation boxes where ever they can.
Children blessed with one spirit, to share what they have to make sure other kids get at least one present for Christmas.
Even children who might be beneficiaries of the programs are doing what they can to be sure OTHER children are helped.
Adults are helping as well. The employees and volunteers of United Way, primary coordinator for the Christmas programs, are giving back by volunteering as bell ringers as well as committing to putting boxes in at least ten locations per employee. Those proceeds do not help United Way, they help the Salvation Army and Toys for Tots.
All proceeds will be split between the Salvation Army and Toy’s for Tots. To donate directly, contact United Way at 211, ask for the Kids Saving Christmas program.
Everyone is short this year. Our children want us to realize that even short we are blessed. Blessed enough to give just a little extra for the children who will go without.
Our goal is simple: To make sure one more family has Christmas until there are no more families to serve.
Merry Christmas!

December 5th, 2008 at 4:01 pmI am the principal at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) School in Toledo. I’m so proud of ALL of our students who, through their spirit of GIVING, raised over $1,500 (and still counting!!!) today. I challenge all other schools in the Toledo area to help raise awareness for this local cause at your schools. Everyone is in need this Christmas, but it only takes $1 from each household in Toledo for us to reach the goal of $150,000. WE CAN DO IT!!! I just got back from the tree lighting in downtown Toledo tonight. Two students from my school literally passed around a hat to those people there and in 5 minutes collected $140.
